A Statistical Study on Ocular Diseases


Abstract
The author analysed statistically of the total of 8371 patients treated in ophthalmological department of Ewha Womans University Hospital during the period of 5 years from January 1959 to December 1963.
1) Regional incidence of disease shows higher tendency in extraocular diseases than intraocular diseases.
2) Incidence of extraocular diseases have been decreased annually while the intraocular diseases showed increasing tendency.
3) In regard with age, the incidence of extraocular diseases appeared higher in younger patients and the intraocular diseases in older patients.
4) There was no significant difference in left and right eye in extraocular diseases and bilateral incidence was dominant in intraocular diseases.
5) As a result of observation by regional incidence of diseases, extraocular diseases were mainly caused by infections and injuries, and in intraocular diseases, the main causes were allergies, metabolic disorders, Endogenous infections and vascular disorders.
